My Views On My Childhood - 1078 Words

Every single person in the world is like a depiction of small integral fragments that constructs a complete puzzle. Discretely each part only imitates an aspect of the original person but when these pieces are connected, it portrays a real life picture of the person. But these pieces of integrity are influenced by the cherished experiences of our lives that give meaning to the bigger picture; a picture that identifies us from the vast ocean of faces. These experiences all start from our childhood and act like the building block of our personality. When I look back on my childhood, I can clearly see the experiences I gained that shaped who I am right now. But when I compare my youth to the friend I now believe was the dearest a man could have, I can see the differences in knowledge, belief, and qualifications. But the similarities in between our morals and the affection for each other have brought us the joy and satisfaction of what we have earned that we will always carry for the rest of our lives. It was I believe the first time I made my parents truly proud when I got accepted into one of the best secondary schools in Bangladesh. The school is run by the Christian missionary and follows the Cambridge International Examinations (British) curriculum. It is every parents’ dream to get their children into this school. Police Brutality and Racial Profiling Essay Example

Police Brutality and Racial Profiling Paper Like most issues, there are two sides to every story. In the case regarding police brutality and racial profiling there are indefinitely two sides. One is the agreement in which police abuse their powers and brutalize the members of minority groups. People believe that police officers Often use excessive force against people who are suspected of crimes and often end up killing them. People argue that police use vague justifications in apprehending a suspect, which leads to the injury or death of a member of a minority. Also, police are allowed to use the stop and frisk method, which violates the Fourth Amendment ban on unreasonable search and seizure. Not to mention the Fourteenth Amendments requirement that all Americans enjoy equal protection of the law. In the opposition of this issue, people believe that police brutality is over- exaggerated, and that police rarely use excessive force. Often times, Police officers are put in difficult situations where they would have to make quick decisions. People say that crime has steadily decreased due to the police officers. With the use of the stop and frisk method, police had gotten major crimes off the streets, which included gun control and prevention of murders, which ultimately made the streets a safer places. People believe that police officers arent engaging in racial profiling, but merely focusing on the high crime neighborhoods. In horrifying events in which a cop murders someone without justifying means, there is little belief to their word compared to multiple witnesses statements. Logically, the one with more evidence would be the one believed. As a cop kills one person with multiple witnesses, people would often believe the multiple witnesses statements ether than a cops sole statement. There are many ways in which an officer can avoid murdering someone when the suspect is supposedly moving to attack. Police officers are equipped with a hand-gun, a Taste, and a baton; which two out of three are them are non-lethal. Police brutality and racial profiling has been evident all throughout history. In order to support the argument that, even today, police abuse their powers to brutalize members of the minority, the article White Power, Black Crime, and Racial Politics incorporates the rhetorical appeals of logos and pathos. Due o logos, the inclusion of the different statistics, the history of racial profiling, and police brutality dating back to the civil rights movement, supports their argument. It is said in the article that, The Civil Rights Act of 1964 may have reduced the possibility that entire racial groups could be sanctioned for mistreatment, but in reality law enforcement can still legally target individuals based on their race. (White Power, Black Crime, and Racial Politics 32). By including stories of peoples experiences with racial profiling, supports the argument with the strong sense of pathos. A Professor from Harvard University was racially profiled due to a bystander was unsure on whether or not a potential robbery was taking place. When the reporting officer appeared at Professor Gates household, it is said, The officer demanded proof that Gates was the lawful resident and was shown his drivers license and Harvard University identification card. (37). It is proper precautions to make sure that he is the one that is the resident of the house, but if Gates stepped out of the house before showing the officer Identification, the situation wouldve been different. Gates lawyers had told him, Sergeant Crowley would have been within his parameters as a police Officer to arrest Gates for breaking and entering if he had stepped outside, surrendering his protections against unreasonable search and seizure and mirroring the trap that many black men fall into when encountering police in profiling situations (37). If Gates had not acted accordingly; he wouldve been arrested for presumably breaking and entering into his own house. It is easily proven that he is the resident of the household, but due to his color, it wouldve been a long and strenuous process. Although there were no physical acts of police ritually, obvious signs of racially profiling had occurred. There are many attempts to shed light on the brutality that is done onto racial minorities; the article, Black NYPD Cops Expose Climate of Rampant Racial Profiling in Force, however, opens people?s eyes that white policemen also brutalize their African American coworkers. Incorporating the rhetorical appeals, logos and ethos, this article becomes credible by including the statistics of the African American officers who were victimized to the racial profiling and interviewing said officers. In this article, it is said that, One tactical counterpoint is that over 90 percent of blacks who are stopped for one reason or another are found simply to be minding their own business. And yet all 25 of the interviewed officers reported being racially profiled. Of those, only a third filed complaints, officially or unofficially. Twenty-four of the interviewed officers reported being racially profiled by their white peers when off-duty and not in uniform. (Black NYPD Cops Expose Climate Rampant Racial Profiling in Force 1). This article provides proof of racial profiling conducted by law enforcement. Since the officers who fell victim to the police ritually and racial profiling were interviewed, people can get a bigger outlook from the victims point of view, since the facts and the credibility enhance the article. In regards of police brutality, the article Police Brutality: Do U. S. Police departments use excessive force? supports the argument where law enforcement officers abuse their power to brutalize and abuse people in the United States. The rising amount of brutality done by the police has caught the eyes of the nation. Supporters of this argument argue that police are using excessive force to apprehend suspected people of crimes and often ailing them regardless of being innocent of guilty. Opponents argue that the excessive force is being exaggerated. The supporters argument of police departments using excessive force has many strong points with the multitude of statistics and listing of events in which police officers use too much force. The rhetorical appeals, ethos, logos, and pathos, are found with very strong points. The credibility of this article is found worthy due to the sources that were cited, the statistics, and the stories of the event that had happened. There were many events that have happened within 50 years to create a avocado and controversy. The leading case in this article appeals to the rhetorical appeal, pathos, is an event that had happened in Ferguson Missouri. This article states, In August 2014, a deadly incident in Ferguson, Missouri, catapulted the issue onto front pages across the country. Darrel Wilson, a white police officer in Ferguson, a Missouri town near SST. Louis shot and killed Michael Brown and a friend for walking illegally in the middle of a street (Police Brutality: Do U. S. Police departments use excessive force? 1). This case had shaken the country and created havoc among the people of Ferguson. There were two sides to this story, which included the police officers side, and the witnesses. It is said, While police claimed that Brown attacked Wilson in his car, eyewitnesses asserted that Brown was shot while holding his hands in the air to show he was unarmed (1). After this Incident, there were a vast amounts riots in which led to excessive force against demonstrators and for arresting journalists (1 Another case similar to Browns case, a man who was allegedly selling cigarettes illegally has been killed by the hands of a police officer. It is said that, Footage of the incident corded by a bystander showed police gripping Garner, who was asthmatic, in a choke hold, causing him to lose consciousness and die (1 ). Due to this incident, NYPD decided that they were going to go over on the training specifications for police officers. These events also tie into the rhetorical appeal of logos. By this article including many different cases in which racial profiling has occurred along with the event of law enforcement officers using excessive force, intensifies the argument in this article. Statistics are included in this article, which shows the percentile of complaints against police officer: hat had used excessive force, 60% happened to be physical force. This artic also included a brief history of police brutality has been included to show how far back police brutality has been going on. The article, Stop and Frisk: Should police have the right to stop, question, and frisk anyone they deem suspicious? Enunciates the power given to law enforcement officers as they have the means to abuse it. The Stop and Frisk methods is thought of as a great way police officers get guns off the streets and prevent a numerous amount of crimes that eventually led to New York City to be a safer place. But many people oppose that using clouded judgment, officers use this method to approach and harass members of the minority group with unjustified reasons. The rhetorical appeals ethos and logos have strong points in this article. Ethos is shown with the inclusion of a Federal Judges input on the Stop and Frisk method. In 2013, federal judge Shirr Condescending ruled, NYPD had violated the F-Ruth Amendment to the Constitution, which protects people from unreasonable search and seizures and the Fourteenth Amendment, which guarantees every person equal protection of the laws by disproportionately targeting minorities without seasonable cause (Stop and Frisk: Should police have the right to stop, question, and frisk anyone they deem suspicious? 1) The Judge doesnt believe that the method itself is unconstitutional, but the way that the method is being used to target members of the minority groups. Including statistics on what race is more victim to the Stop and Frisk method, shows logos in this article. It is said that, In 2011 , more that 80 percent of those stopped were black or Hispanic, even though members of those groups constitute only about half of the city population (1). Another study claims hat, above 50 percent of people who were stopped by the Stop and Frisk method were because of furtive movements, while 33 percent was due to suspect casing location. This method in apprehending actual criminals is an underlying excuse to racially profile members of the minority group. Living in the 21st century, the economy is continuously progressing. Prior to the civil rights movement, people fought for equal rights. Even after the civil rights era, where equality became a part of our Constitution, people are still fighting for equality. In many parts of our country, racism still lingers. With the mutinous acts of police brutality and racial profiling, law enforcement officers should go about different means where everyone is treated equally despite their color. Police should implement different means when regarding apprehending a suspecting culprit. Instead of only focusing in high crime areas, they should spread their focus equally amongst different areas. Police departments across the country should review the way that they train their upcoming officers, so that equality is being practiced. With the uprising of incidental murders of innocent people, people of America become unrest. With the probability of lessening police brutality benefits the greatest amount of people. By getting criminals off the street in a non-lethal and justifiable way would make America safer. Across the country, people are dying. But a multitude of those deaths include members of ethnic minorities by law enforcement officers. With these heartbreaking events, questions start to rise. Questions such as: Are police using excessive force? Are police abusing their powers as law enforcement officers? Does racial profiling have to do with these murders? These question! Are all controversial topics in which has struck America, leaving the questions answered. In order to lessen the uproar towards law enforcement, officers should incorporate using their non-lethal weapons that they are assigned with.

Forensic Accounting

Forensic Accounting Introduction A Forensic accountant assists an organization in unraveling issues surrounding financial problems. Mostly, his/her role involves analyzing financial information with the aim of unearthing fraud.Advertising We will write a custom research paper sample on Forensic Accounting specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More After analyzing financial information, a forensic accountant is required to summarise and give a detailed report of his/her findings to the responsible party for implementation. Moreover, a forensic accountant keeps records of all the evidence gathered during his/her forensic investigation. This enables a party in a dispute to review and make decisions. Furthermore, the report lays the ground for in-court settlement if the parties fail to arbitrate among them. Thus, a forensic accountant helps organizations to avert fraudulent financial activities and institute appropriate controls aimed at preventing future frauds. Impo rtant skills for a Forensic Accountant A person seeking to be a forensic accountant should possess some essential skills to enable him/her to carry the job more efficiently. Analytical skills are one of the key skills demanded in this job. Carlino (2010) points out that analytical skills involve having the capacity to tie data and knowledge gathered from different areas together to come up with a clear interpretation. This plays a key role in enhancing the accuracy of financial information gathered and simplifies decision making during the judgment process.Advertising Looking for research paper on accounting? Also, a forensic accountant should be a person possessing persistence skills. Inve stigations involving financial statements take many hours or days to study and analyze to detect if the questionable adjustment has been made. Having persistence skills helps an individual to spot other details which might have been skipped during the investigation. Davis et al. (2010) explain that a forensic accountant, after carrying out investigations, he/she writes reports and acts as a witness in the court. Thus, he/she has to possess effective communication skills to articulate what is contained in the report. Furthermore, accounting involves analyzing complex financial transactions, statements, and account details; after analyzing, an individual has to submit the findings either orally or in a written report. Thus, effective communication skills are important in presenting a clear report to enable people with no or limited accounting knowledge to understand. A forensic accountant should be a conscious stickler to detail. This skill is important when the accountant is sifting through massive financial information (Kay and Gierlasinski, 2001). Being conscious of details provides an individual with new insight and can lead to uncovering new evidence that might lead to a sustained prosecution in the court.Advertising We will write a custom research paper sample on Forensic Accounting specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Davis et al. (2010) point out that a strong background in accounting is important in pursuing a career in forensic accounting. A bachelors degree in accounting or related discipline is a requisite. Also, membership to a certified professional body and experience are mandatory. However, individuals may gain forensic accounting skills on the job. Forensic Accountant and the Courtroom Environment When an organization suspects financial misappropriation in the organization, it deploys forensic investigators to begin determining the magnitude, and the nature of the fraud. The forensic role, in this ca se, is to come up with findings to enable the court to take further actions against the culprits. In the courts, a forensic accountant unravels the evidence linked to financial fraud by testifying. Thus, as mentioned earlier, testifying needs efficient skills in communication because the forensic accountant has to cross-examine the parties involved in the fraud. A forensic accountant acts as a detective in the court environment. For instance, he/she has to interview the people involved in the fraud and extract more information necessary to sustain a case. Legal Responsibility of a Forensic accountant in the Business In most cases, a forensic accountant is hired by organizations and law professionals among others to help unravel financial crimes and offer litigation support services. According to Kay and Gierlasinski (2001), the society bestows a big responsibility to a forensic accountant; he/she has to detect, prevent, investigate high profiled white collar frauds; computer scams, terrorist funding and, among others, forms of financial crimes.Advertising Looking for research paper on accounting? How does a forensic accountant achieve this in practice? Dark and Leauanae (2004) explain that a forensic accountant detects the organization financial losses in advance; this practice has made many organizations save money which would have been otherwise embezzled. The timely prevention of fraud has built the trust of investors as it motivates them to continue investing their funds in the business. Also, Kay and Gierlasinski (2001) show that the field of forensic accounting provides job security for many forensic accountants. Many organizations are springing up and coupled with rising financial frauds; the need for financial accountants is increasing. Dark and Leauanae (2004) indicate that in the U.S., the field of forensic accounting has fixed thousands of jobs that were not feasible before. This has secured the economy because more people can earn a living by being forensic accountants. A forensic accountant analyses financial statements and evidence used in legal matters. Thus, the evidence uncovered is used to identify fraudulent activities such as insurance fraud, money laundering, tax evasion and other embezzlements in organizations. Besides, the forensic services are significant in uncovering the activities of drug trafficking and hidden assets of couples entangled in divorce matters. A forensic accountant gathers and analyses financial data using mathematical and investigative skills. The findings arrived are used as evidence in a court of law to apprehend the culprits. Moreover, a forensic accountant has to support the evidence produced in the court. This is to enable the court to make a concise legal decision against a financial criminal. Cases of Forensic Accounting Case 1: A shareholder’s dilemma A 73-year-old father had just made a comeback to his construction company after the board handed h im the presidency (Barrett, 2013). Barely two years in the office, he realized that the former president, his 42-year-old son, had devised various schemes to defraud the company. Nevertheless, to say, the son had already misappropriated a sum of $11 million of his fathers 55% shares of the company while he was in the office. Moreover, he had allocated about $6 million a year (for his father’s retirement) and a further $6,500 monthly stipend to the ex-wife of the father (Barrett, 2013). Role of Forensic Accountant The forensic investigators were invited to carry out a thorough forensic audit on the deposed son. The forensic audit was divided into two parts: to validate the assertions of misfeasance by the father, prior and after his return, and to demonstrate that during the son’s tenure, there was no misappropriation of funds the father had purported in the lawsuit. Besides, the forensic accountants were also mandated to carry out the valuation of the business to certi fy the son had not run the company into bankruptcy. Results The evidence gathered by the forensic accountants was presented to the legal consultants of the father and was admitted without argument. The evidence laid a basis for the legal proceedings and as a review for tightening the internal controls of the company. Case 2: The Smoking Gun (Internal Coup) A medical company was preparing to make an initial public offer (IPO), and the prerequisites such as the patient appointments had gone well with doctors in several Southeastern states in the U.S. Besides, the products on offer had been tasted and ascertained to be of high quality and ready for the IPO unveiling (Barrett, 2013). However, to sabotage the process, two corporate officers and deep-pocket investors had devised a strategy to remove the financial and operating staff and replace them with others who could easily be compromised. Moreover, to complicate the process, the deep-pocket investors suppressed the release of funds u nless the officers were sacked or replaced (Barrett, 2013). The attorney of the Chief Executive Officer had no substantial evidence on the conspiracy among the three; hence, a forensic audit was needed. Role of Financial Accountant The financial accountants were invited to ascertain whether there was a conspiracy between the three groups mentioned. They were tasked with analyzing the company’s hard drive and the laptops used by the two doctors under investigation. Results After conducting a thorough forensic examination in the victims’ offices and the company’s server, there was no evidence linking the three to conspiracy. However, further investigation revealed that the three indeed communicated through personal emails hosted by Hotmail and Yahoo, but not the companys official emails, running through the company’s server. Forensic Accounting The increase of the percentage related to the financial and corporate crimes influences the changes in the role of forensic accounting for businesses. Specific forensic accounting skills are necessary to control the situation within companies in order to avoid and predict financial crimes because of the spread of financial fraud as the negative tendency in business.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Forensic Accounting specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More From this point, forensic accountants are professionals who are responsible for determining frauds and for predicting financial crimes or for resolving the problematic situations when it is necessary to investigate the definite financial case. As a result, there is a range of skills which forensic accountants should possess as well as a set of responsibilities associated with the legal context of the work of a forensic accountant. That is why, it is important to focus on the most important skills necessary for realizing the internal control within the company in relation to financial issues and to determine the legal responsibility of forensic accountants when they investigate the cases in companies or discuss them in the courtroom. The Forensic Accountants’ Most Important Skills Forensic accountants should be skillful investigators in order to discuss the case in detail and find the problem as well as its causes. Furthermore, this kind of internal control is almost impossible without the effective auditing techniques used by forensic accountants in order to resolve the problems and focus on the financial frauds. According to Davis, Farrell, and Ogilby, to discover and explore the evidences associated with fraud activities and misrepresentation, a successful forensic accountant needs to have such developed skills as the analytical thinking, the orientation on details and facts, effective communication skills, the ability to analyze and interp ret the information, and auditing skills (Davis, Farrell, Ogilby, 2009). The concentration on these five skills allows forensic accountants’ effective performance and investigation activity. Analytical skills are important to help forensic accountants explore the case aspects and analyze them effectively in order to provide the report on the fact of frauds and financial crimes. Forensic accountants receive the access to the financial records of the company, and their task is to interpret and analyze this information with references to their analytical skills (Crumbley, Heitger, Smith, 2007). Thus, the orientation on details and facts is important because this is a path to determining the problem and solution to it. The next significant factor is effective oral communication which is necessary to find the information and examine the details of the case with the help of employees and managers as the subjects (Skalak, Golden, Clayton, 2011). Forensic accountants work directly with financial records and reports that is why auditing skills are extremely necessary to perform the basic duties of an accountant and controller of the company’s financial activities.Advertising Looking for essay on accounting? If the case is discussed in the courtroom, the role of a forensic accountant is to provide the necessary evidences based on the investigative activities which were realized to determine frauds and problems in the company (Pagano Buckhoff, 2005). Forensic accountants can be discussed as experts in the cases of financial and corporate crimes because of their focus on investigation an d analysis of the internal information, and this role of witnesses and experts can be used in the courtroom, depending on the case. The Legal Responsibility of a Forensic Accountant Forensic accountants are responsible for examining and analyzing a lot of cases and issues associated with business, depending on the needs of the company at the moment. Moreover, these responsibilities can be discussed as legal because forensic accountants must release any information about frauds and financial crimes which is discovered during the investigation without references to the company’s progress and status. From this perspective, forensic accountants’ legal responsibility is closely associated with the concepts of objectivity and justice (Bressler, 2010). The role of forensic accountants is important in business because their participation in investigation should guarantee the transparency of information and the legal approach to resolving the problem. Forensic Accounting Cases The cases of Enron and WorldCom are two situations when forensic accountants provided the vital evidences in order to resolve the legal questions and uncover the fact of crimes. During the development of Enron scandal in 2001, it was found that the company’s managers hided the information about the company’s financial situation and provided shareholders with the false reports in order to attract more investments and cover the company’s bankruptcy. The price of shares increased irrelevantly to the real situation within Enron. The collapse of Enron is closely connected with auditing and investigative activities realized by forensic accountants in order to examine the case in detail when the fraud was discussed as the fact. Focusing on Enron case, it is important to state that the significant role of forensic accountants is based on their investigation and found evidences which were presented in the courtroom. These evidences are necessary to prove the guilt of man agers responsible for the collapse. The case of WorldCom reflects the similar situation when managers of the company hided the information about the real earnings and profits in order to realize their fraud activities and avoid bankruptcy. The non-reported sums of money were used to conceal shortages in revenues within the company. Forensic accountants were responsible for investigating the case during a long period of time to present the most objective reports in the courtroom.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Forensic Accounting specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More This situation affected the development of the opinion that forensic accountants should work with agencies as experts permanently in order to discover and prevent corporate and financial crimes and regulate the activities within the business world. The reflection of Enron situation in the case of WorldCom in 2002 emphasized the role of forensic accountants i n the process of auditing and interpreting financial reports and records (Crumbley, Heitger, Smith, 2007; Pagano Buckhoff, 2005). Thus, importance of forensic accountants in business is stated today as the well-known and admitted idea because the roles performed by forensic accountants allow the positive and fair progress of companies with references to the ethical principles and legal norms. From this perspective, forensic accountants can be discussed as protectors of the companies and the business community’s interests and in relation to guaranteeing the fair business relations. They also provide the appropriate discussion and resolution of such cases as commercial damages and personal injury claims which are also examined by forensic accountants because of the involvement of legal and financial aspects. Details of James Deans Death in a Car Accident

Details of James Dean's Death in a Car Accident In September 1955, actor James Dean was driving his brand-new Porsche 550 Spyder to an auto rally in Salinas, California, when he was involved in a head-on collision with a 1950 Ford Tudor. James Dean, only 24 years old, died in the crash. Although already famous for his role in East of Eden, his death and the release of Rebel Without a Cause caused James Dean to soar to cult status. James Dean, forever frozen as the talented, misunderstood, rebellious youth remains the symbol of teenage angst. Who Was James Dean? John Kobal Foundation/Contributor/Getty Images James Dean had appeared in a number of television shows before getting his big break in 1954 when he was chosen to play Cal Trask, the leading male role in the film East of Eden (1955). This was the only one of Deans films released before his death. Quickly following East of Eden, James Dean was signed to play Jim Stark in Rebel Without a Cause (1955), the film for which Dean is best remembered. Immediately following the filming for Rebel Without a Cause, Dean played the lead role in Giant (1956). Both of these films were released after Deans death. James Dean Raced Cars As Deans movie career began to take off, James Dean also started to race cars. In March 1955 Dean raced in the Palm Springs Road Races, and in May of that year he raced in the Minter Field Bakersfield race and the Santa Barbara Road Races. James Dean liked to go fast. In September 1955 Dean replaced his white Porsche 356 Super Speedster with a new, silver Porsche 550 Spyder. Bettmann/Contributor/Getty Images Dean had the car specialized by having the number 130 painted on both the front and back. Also painted on the back of the car was Little Bastard, Deans nickname given to him by friend Bill Hickman, who was Deans dialogue coach for Giant. The Accident On September 30, 1955, James Dean was driving his new Porsche 550 Spyder to an auto rally in Salinas, California, when the fatal accident occurred. Originally planning to tow the Porsche to the rally, Dean changed his mind at the last minute and decided to drive the Porsche instead. Dean and Rolf Wuetherich, Deans mechanic, rode in the Porsche. Following were photographer Sanford Roth and Bill Hickman, driving a Ford station wagon that had a trailer for the Spyder attached. En route to Salinas, Dean was pulled over by police officers near Bakersfield for speeding around 3:30 p.m. After being stopped, Dean and Wuetherich continued on their way. Two hours later, around 5:30 p.m., they were driving westbound on Highway 466 (now called State Route 46), when a 1950 Ford Tudor pulled out in front of them. 23-year-old Donald Turnupseed, the driver of the Ford Tudor, had been traveling east on Highway 466 and was attempting to make a left turn onto Highway 41. Unfortunately, Turnupseed had already started to make his turn before he saw the Porsche traveling quickly toward him. Without time to turn, the two cars smashed nearly head-on. The injuries among the three involved in the crash varied greatly. Turnupseed only received minor injuries from the accident. Rolf Wuetherich, the passenger in the Porsche, was lucky to be thrown from the Porsche. Although he suffered serious head injuries and a broken leg, he survived the crash. Dean, however, was killed in the accident. Dean was just 24 years old at the time of the wreck. Posthumous Academy Awards To this day, James Dean is the only person to receive two Academy Award nominations posthumously. In 1956, he was nominated posthumously for Best Leading Actor for his role in East of Eden. This was a historic first. In 1957, Dean was again posthumously nominated for Best Leading Actor, this time for his role in Giant. What Happened to Deans Smashed Car? Many Dean fans wonder what happened to the smashed Porsche. After the accident, the crumpled car was toured around the United States as part of a driver safety presentation. However, en route between two stops, the car disappeared. In 2005, Volo Auto Museum in Volo, Illinois, offered $1 million to anyone who currently had the car. So far, the car has not resurfaced.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Business Regulations Assignment

Advantages and Disadvantages of Business Regulations - Assignment Example It is the role of the government to make the business regulations so that they are uniform to everyone despite in certain circumstances bearing merits and demerits, which this essay seeks to highlight. Advantage of these regulations is that a business is able to run smoothly as there is a clear logical framework on how to conduct logistics. This approach makes staffs have a technical knowhow about ethics and decisions that govern their business. Hence, being able to adapt to the working conditions without any difficulties and still comply to what the industry demands (Handlin, 2011). Rules and regulations are of major importance to a business since it removes much of guesswork by the staff since they ought to work according to the prescribed set of behavior. Through this, conducting of varied practices is effective in both to the staff and those they are serving compared to any industry that do not operate within certain procedures. Another advantage is that rules are able to prevent owners of companies from using power to abuse their workers (Handlin, 2011). If there were no regulations, most of the rights of workers could be stepped on by their employers. The workers could be receiving meager wages or compelled to work in extremely deplorable conditions, hence regulations safeguard their settings. Since without those regulations, owners could be resulting to actions that not only harm the environment or pursue business ventures that are profit making but also exploit staff. Therefore, by having rules and regulations some of these hazardous behaviors are preventable thus help govern protect its people. Conversely, business makes it hard to execute certain changes (Nijsen, 2009). Having a rules makes it is a very rigid process to make changes like decision making. In some cases, the regulations made do not account for some situations, this may be a major drawback to a business thus taking

Personal Development Plan Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3500 words

Personal Development Plan - Assignment Example This personality type compels individuals to be responsible and punctual. They tend to go great lengths to do things they believe in. This includes helping in any way to benefit their loved ones: family or friends. ISFJs’ hate confrontation but will stand up against anyone who hurts those they love. Following tradition is vital, including respecting authority. Practical, these people act according to the stored information shaping their mindset. This differs only when they deal with people who cause them to replace sensibility with feeling: concern and values. If you feel that this result does not portray your personality adequately – suggest what you think your personality is. State which parts of the result you agree with most and those you don’t. For the answer below only right about the traits you agree with.  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   I agree with most of the traits of my personality. It is true that I would do anything in my power to protect the ones I love and keep th em happy. My family considers me a good caretaker, especially when someone falls ill. However, it’s also true that I am sensitive to the smallest of things. This overtly sensitized me ends up hurt because it’s impossible for me to confront people. A stout traditionalist, I am very aggravated when an authority is challenged. I am also very paranoid under stress and can think the most horrific outcomes of my decisions. Also, a strong belief system makes people with ISJF to respect authority while maintaining their practicality. Weaknesses associated with this personality type are: ISJF compels some individuals in developing certain data, which they refuse to question when rushed into decisions. This rigidness often causes them to make wrong judgments. ISJFs’ need appreciation for what they do; if their contributions are unacknowledged they become bitter and aggrieved. It can also lead to severity while supporting authority which can create problems if the hierarchy makes a wrong decision. These individuals are very aware of the outcomes of situations and do not function well under stress by imagining overly negative outcomes, without realizing the ramifications for those around them. 2. Evaluation System Essay Example for Free

Evaluation System Essay Introduction As we move into a new era of Quality Assurance, universities and schools are increasingly being called upon to evaluate the students and their respective grades. One common method is via student evaluations. At the University of Batangas, most especially in the College of Engineering Department, a student evaluation is needed especially by the graduating students. Currently, students from different courses find it very difficult in getting their evaluation because they are going to get through a very long line of students and after that they will wait for their turn on the registrars’ office. The results from such evaluations are important to students for them to be able to know what subjects they taken and not yet taken. However, the number of evaluations requested per year continues to increase rapidly and, as a result, the overhead of processing such information manually is a growing burden. This paper describes a pilot project at University of Batangas, as architecture for getting information about the student in the database. Due to the sensitive nature of the data and their critical role within and outside of the University, the system must satisfy several requirements if it is to survive. Some of the requirements are technical, for example providing easy access to students. However, many of the requirements are organizational, and tied to the local context of the University. As is the case with most technological innovations, long-term success is intimately tied to the development of humane technologies that seamlessly fit into the work-flow of institutions. In the remainder of this paper we describe the architecture of our system, and how its design and implementation attempted to address the many technical, administrative, and organizational requirements of a successful evaluation system. Statement of the Problem The proponents seek to determine the feasibility of developing a student evaluation system that will help prevent problems in getting the grades and subjects of a certain students in the College of Engineering. The researchers seek to establish answers to the following questions: 1. What are the benefits of student evaluation system? 2. What are the flaws of the current student evaluation system? 3. What is the capacity of the system to accept and retrieve data? Objectives of the Study The following are the objectives of the study: * To design and develop a student evaluation system. * To design and develop a system that could store and retrieve data or student information. * To design and develop a system that could make the life of students and faculty members more convenient. * To identify the flaws of current student evaluation system. * To identify the capacity of the system to accept and retrieve data. * To identify the benefits of student evaluation system. Scope and Delimitation The proponents focused on the application and portability of student evaluation system that would lead to a new era of comfortness. Scope of the Project * The study will be implemented with the help of Microsoft Access 2010 as the database, * The study covers the ability to receive and retrieve data’s and information about a certain student. * The study is focus on helping students in making their student life more easy and worry free. Limitation of the Study Although the research has reached it aims, there were some unavoidable limitations: * The system is designed only for the students of Computer Engineering Department. Definition of Terms The following terms has been defined to guide the readers in their understanding of this research paper. Evaluation is a systematic determination of a subjects merit, worth and significance, using criteria governed by a set of standards. It can assist an organization to assess any aim, realizable concept or proposal, or any alternative, to help in decision-making. System is a set of interacting or interdependent components forming an integrated whole or a set of elements (often called components ) and relationships which are different from relationships of the set or its elements to other elements or sets. Database is a structured collection of data. The data are typically organized to model relevant aspects of reality (for example, the availability of rooms in hotels), in a way that supports processes requiring this information. Microsoft Access also known as Microsoft Office Access, is a database management system from Microsoft that combines the relational Microsoft Jet Database Engine with a graphical user interface and software-development tools. Humane characterized by kindness, mercy, sympathy. Java is a programming language originally developed by James Gosling at Sun Microsystems and released in 1995 as a core component of Sun Microsystems Java platform. The language derives much of its syntax from C and C++, but it has fewer low-level facilities than either of them.

Essay --

Summarize the main conducts of the leaders mentioned in this case, and discuss why they succeed or failed (15 marks). P&G’s reputation is earned by our conduct: what we say, what we do, the products we make, the services we provide and the way we act and treat others. As conscientious citizens and employees, we want to do what is right. For P&G, and our global operations, this is the only way to do business. a. A deep commitment to deliver leadership results. b. Leaders in P & G have a clear vision of where we are going. c. They focus our resources to achieve leadership objectives and strategies. d. They develop the capability to deliver our strategies and eliminate organizational barriers. One element that helps make the program successful: loyalty. While there's no hard and fast rule against hiring outsiders, P&G rarely does so. "We promote from the inside, because that's our primary source of talent," says Lafley. COO Bob McDonald says employees who are promoted internally nearly always thrive, while other companies, he reckons, have a 50% fail rate when they use headhunters. "What we're talking about is a system that's much more reliable," says McDonald. The result of P&G’s focus on innovation has been reliable, sustainable growth. Since the beginning of the decade, P&G sales have more than doubled, from $39 billion to more than $80 billion; the number of billion-dollar brands, those that generate $1 billion or more in sales each year, has grown from 10 to 24; the number of brands with sales between $500 million and $1 billion has more than quadrupled, from four to 18. This growth is being led by energized managers — innovation leaders — who continually learn new ways to grow revenues, improve margins, and avoid commoditizati... ...eciation for Chinese culture to be successful. Growth in this arena was facilitated by Procter & Gamble’s emphasis on attracting and retaining local talent. How to Deal with Crisis: The tumultuous nature of the Chinese economic and political system during this period forced Procter & Gamble to learn how to overcome significant challenges numerous times. The Procter & Gamble leadership recognized that in order to remain viable under such circumstances, they had to face up to the reality of any crisis situation squarely and remain unfazed while focusing primarily on the few very specific issue areas where they could make a sizeable impact. Procter & Gamble’s survival was facilitated by a policy of company-wide resolve to persevere in the face of problems created by the crisis and an emphasis on caring for their employees, particularly their domestic talent. Examining Exclusivity in Mass Marketing

Explain why Sears or Wal-Mart cannot effectively create a trendy counterculture image. High volume and mass appeal are at the core of one-stop-shop retailers like Sears and Wal-Mart. These stores are the culture others are trying to counter. Wal-Mart relies on mass production of the products they sell to keep manufacturing and shipping costs down. This allows them to maximize profitability. Profitability is not at the core of counterculture; unique style and individualism are. Counterculture is the alternate of culture, even a subculture. For an active member of the counterculture to shop at a store that sells toilet paper a few isles down from their jeans defies the very image they are set to create or maintain. This is the same reason Urban Outfitters cannot sell Craftsman power tools. This would counter the counterculture image Urban Outfitters is built upon. Could the big box stores sell merchandise identical to Urban Outfitters? Explain your answer. Big box stores can sell merchandise identical to niche stores like Urban Outfitters to keep up with trends. Stores like Costco can produce, ship and stock merchandise on a large scale in hopes of increasing profitability. Seemingly exclusive products appeal to the masses that do not normally shop at, or cannot afford to shop at more exclusive retailers like Urban Outfitters. This in itself is a trend because once the product is no longer exclusive, it will eventually no longer sell as it did previously. Also if the once exclusive product sells at all is a gamble in marketing and sales. Matching the appeal of the original product, timing of launch so as to miss out on the value while it exists and availability to the masses can impact how well a trendy product will sell at a big box store. If it does, what is the effect on the exclusivity once offered by Urban Outfitters? Identify at least three reasons why exclusivity is valuable.

Hawthorne Studies (Organisational Behaviour)

HAWTHORNE STUDIES The most important contribution to the human relations movement within organizational behavior came out of the Hawthorne studies undertaken at western electric company’s Hawthorne works in Chicago in between 1924 and 1932. Main researches were Elton Mayo, Dickson, Whitehead, and Rothlisberger. The researchers originally set out to study the relationship between productivity and physical working conditions. They conducted various researches in four phases with each phase attempting to answer the question raised at the previous phase. The four phases were; 1. Experiments to determine the effects of changes in illumination on productivity; Illumination experiments (1924-27) 2. Experiments to determine the effects of changes in hours and other working conditions on productivity; Relay assembly test room experiments (1927-28). 3. Conducting plant wide interviews to determine worker attitudes and sentiments, Mass interviewing program (1928-30). 4. Determination and analysis of social organization at work; Bank wiring observation room experiments (1931-32). Illumination experiments:-The experiments began in 1924 and extended over several years. The purpose was to examine the relation of quality and quantity of illumination to efficiency of industrial workers. Control and experimental groups were established. The experimental group was presented with varying illumination intensities, while the control group worked under a constant intensity. The researches were surprised to see that productivity increased to roughly the same rate in both the test and control groups. It was only in final experiment, where they decreased illumination levels to 0. 0f foot candle (roughly moonlight intensity) that an appreciable decline in output occurred. The engineers concluded that illumination intensity was not directly related to group productivity, but they could not explain the behavior they had witnessed. Relay assembly test room experiments:- Relay assembly test room experiments were designed to determine the effect of changes in various job conditions on group productivity as the illumination experiments could not establish relationship between intensity of illumination and production. For this purpose, the researchers set up a relay assembly test room and two girls were selected. These girls were asked to choose four more girls as company-workers. Following ere the changes and the resultant outcomes; 1. The incentive system was changed so that each girl’s extra pay was based on the other five rather than output of larger group. The productivity increased as compared to before. 2. Two five-minute rests –one in morning session and other in the evening session – were introduced which were increased to ten minutes. The productivity increased. 3. The rest period was reduced to five minutes but frequency was increased. The productivity decreased slightly and the girls complained that frequent rest intervals affected the rhythm of the work. 4. The number of rest pauses was reduced to two of ten minutes each, but in the morning, coffee or soup was served along with sandwich and in the evening, snack was provided. The productivity increased. 5. Changes in working hours and workday were introduced. Productivity again increased. As each change was introduced, absenteeism decreased, morale increased and less supervision was required. Mass interviewing program During the course of experiments, about 20,000 interviews were conducted between 1928 and 1930 to determine employee’s attitude towards company, supervision, insurance plans, promotion and wages. Initially these interviews were conducted by means of direct questioning but later it was changed to non-directive interviewing where interviewer was asked to listen to instead of talking, arguing or advising.During the course of interviews, it was discovered that worker’s behavior was being influenced by group behavior. Bank wiring observatio n room experiments The concluding study at Hawthorne was significant because it confirmed that the importance of one aspect of the informal organization on worker productivity. Specifically, the researchers studied workers in the bank wiring room and found the behavioral norms set by the work group had a powerful influence over the productivity of a group. The higher the norms, the greater the productivity. The lower the norms, the lower the productivity. The power of the peer group and the importance of the group influence on individual behavior and productivity were confined in the bank wiring study. Findings ?Workplaces are social environments and people are motivated by much more than economic self-interest. ?The girls were allowed to have a friendly relationship with their supervisor and they felt happier at work. ?They felt like part of a team when changes were discussed in advance with them. Flowing from the findings of these investigations he came to certain conclusions as fo llows: Work is a group activity. oThe social world of the adult is primarily patterned about work activity. oThe need for recognition, security and sense of belonging is more important in determining workers' morale and productivity than the physical conditions under which he works. oA complaint is not necessarily an objective recital of facts; it is commonly a symptom manifesting disturbance of an individual's status position. oThe worker is a person whose attitudes and effectiveness are conditioned by social demands from both inside and outside the work plant. Informal groups within the work plant exercise strong social controls over the work habits and attitudes of the individual worker. oThe change from an established society in the home to an adaptive society in the work plant resulting from the use of new techniques tends continually to disrupt the social organization of a work plant and industry generally. oGroup collaboration does not occur by accident; it must be planned an d developed. If group collaboration is achieved the human relations within a work plant may reach a cohesion which resists the disrupting effects of adaptive society.

Calculate Osmotic Pressure Example Problem

Calculate Osmotic Pressure Example Problem This example problem demonstrates how to calculate the amount of solute to add to create a specific osmotic pressure in a solution. Osmotic Pressure Example Problem How much glucose (C6H12O6) per liter should be used for an intravenous solution to match the 7.65 atm at 37 degrees Celsius osmotic pressure of blood?Solution:Osmosis is the flow of a solvent into a solution through a semipermeable membrane. Osmotic pressure is the pressure that stops the process of osmosis. Osmotic pressure is a colligative property of a substance since it depends on the concentration of the solute and not its chemical nature.Osmotic pressure is expressed by the formula: ÃŽ   iMRT where ÃŽ   is the osmotic pressure in atm,  i van t Hoff factor of the solute,  M molar concentration in mol/L,  R universal gas constant 0.08206 L ·atm/mol ·K, and  T absolute temperature in Kelvin.Step 1:  Determine the van t Hoff factor.Since glucose does not dissociate into ions in solution, the van t Hoff factor 1.Step 2: Find the absolute temperature.T Degrees Celsius 273T 37 273T 310 KelvinStep 3:  Find the concentration of glucose.ÃŽ   iMRTM ÃŽ  /iRTM 7.65 atm/(1)(0.08206 L ·atm/mol ·K)(310)M 0.301 mol/LStep 4:  Find the amount of sucrose per liter.M mol/VolumeMol M ·VolumeMol 0.301 mol/L x 1 LMol 0.301 molFrom the periodic table:C 12 g/molH 1 g/molO 16 g/molMolar mass of glucose 6(12) 12(1) 6(16)Molar mass of glucose 72 12 96Molar mass of glucose 180 g/molMass of glucose 0.301 mol x 180 g/1 molMass of glucose 54.1 gramsAnswer:54.1 grams per liter of glucose should be used for an intravenous solution to match the 7.65 atm at 37 degrees Celsius osmotic pressure of blood. What Happens If You Get the Answer Wrong Osmotic pressure is critical when dealing with blood cells. If the solution is hypertonic to the cytoplasm of the red blood cells, the cells  will shrink through a process called crenation. If the solution is hypotonic with respect to the osmotic pressure of the cytoplasm, water will rush into the cells to try to reach equilibrium. This may cause the red blood cells to burst. In an isotonic solution, red and white blood cells maintain their normal structure and function. Its important to remember that there may be other solutes in the solution that affect osmotic pressure. If a solution is isotonic with respect to glucose but contains more or less of an ionic species (sodium ions, potassium ions, and so on), these species may migrate into or out of a cell to try to reach equilibrium.

How to Sort Records in Delphi DBGrid by Column Title

How to Sort Records in Delphi DBGrid by Column Title Delphi DBGrid is such a powerful component that youre probably using it every day if youre developing data-aware applications. Below, well take a look at how to add some more features to your database applications that your users are sure to love. Following the concepts described in the Beginners Guide to Delphi Database Programming, the examples below use ADO components (AdoQuery/AdoTable connected to ADOConnection, DBGrid connected to AdoQuery over DataSource) to display the records from a database table in a DBGrid component. All the component names were left as Delphi named them when dropped on the form (DBGrid1, ADOQuery1, AdoTable1, etc.). Mouse Moves Over DBGrid Title Area First, lets see how to change the mouse pointer while it moves over the DBGrid title area. All you have to do is add the code to the OnMouseMove event for the DBGrid component. The code below simply uses the MouseCoord property of the DBGrid component to calculate where the mouse pointer is. If its over the DGBrid title area, the pt.y equals 0, which is the first row in the DBGrid (the title area displaying column/field titles). procedure TForm1.DBGrid1MouseMove (Sender: TObject; Shift: TShiftState; X, Y: Integer);var pt: TGridcoord;begin pt: DBGrid1.MouseCoord(x, y); if pt.y0 then DBGrid1.Cursor:crHandPoint else DBGrid1.Cursor:crDefault;end; Sort on Column Click and Change the Column Title Font If youre using the ADO approach to Delphi database development, and want to sort the records in the dataset, you need to set the Sort property of your AdoDataset (ADOQuery, AdoTable). The Sort property is the widestring value indicating the ORDER BY part of the standard SQL query. Of course, you do not need to write the SQL query to be able to use the Sort property. Simply set the Sort property to the name of a single field or to a comma-separated list of fields, each following the sort order. Heres an example: ADOTable1.Sort : Year DESC, ArticleDate ASC The OnTitleClick event of the DBGrid component has a Column parameter indicating the Column the user has clicked on. Each Column (object of type TColumn) has a Field property indicating the Field (TField) represented by the Column, and the Field in its FieldName property holds the name of the field in the underlying dataset. Therefore, to sort an ADO dataset by field/column, a simple line can be used: with TCustomADODataSet(DBGrid1.DataSource.DataSet) doSort : Column.Field.FieldName; // ASC or DESC Below is the code for the OnTitleClick even handler that sorts the records by column click. The code, as always, extends the idea. First, we want to, in some way, mark the column thats currently used for sort order. Next, if we click on a column title and the dataset is already sorted by that column, we want to change the sort order from ASC (ascending) to DESC (descending), and vice versa. Finally, when we sort the dataset by another column, we want to remove the mark from the previously selected column. For the sake of simplicity, to mark the column that sorts the records, well simply change the font style of the column title to Bold, and remove it when dataset is sorted using another column. procedure TForm1.DBGrid1TitleClick(Column: TColumn);{$J}const PreviousColumnIndex : integer -1;{$J-}beginif DBGrid1.DataSource.DataSet is TCustomADODataSet thenwith TCustomADODataSet(DBGrid1.DataSource.DataSet) dobegintry DBGrid1.Columns[PreviousColumnIndex].title.Font.Style : DBGrid1.Columns[PreviousColumnIndex].title.Font.Style - [fsBold]; exceptend; Column.title.Font.Style : Column.title.Font.Style [fsBold]; PreviousColumnIndex : Column.Index; if (Pos(Column.Field.FieldName, Sort) 1) and (Pos( DESC, Sort) 0) then Sort : Column.Field.FieldName DESC else Sort : Column.Field.FieldName ASC; end;end; The above code uses typed constants to preserve the value of the previously selected column for sort order.

Question 1 (75 marks) Last month, four friends, Rachel, Monica, Essay

Question 1 (75 marks) Last month, four friends, Rachel, Monica, Phoebe, and Joey acquired the freehold estate to Central Farm fr - Essay Example Moreover, in any contract for the sale of freehold land, there is a presumption that the contract will automatically include everything which legally constitutes â€Å"land†4. Accordingly, whether or not Barry was entitled to remove the sign depends on whether the sign can validly constitute land or whether it constituted a chattel, which doesn’t fall within the scope of â€Å"land†5. The classic definition of a fixture is anything which is physically (but not necessarily legally) removable and makes a permanent improvement to the land6. Conversely, a chattel is an item brought onto the land, which doesn’t become part of the land7. The general rule regarding fixtures is that whatever is attached to the soil becomes part of the soil8. In determining whether the sign is fixture or a chattel, it will be necessary to apply the two factual tests as extrapolated by Blackburn J in the case of Holland v Hodgson9, namely the degree of annexation test and the purpos e of annexation test. The degree of annexation test requires that the object be fastened to or connected with the land in some way for there to be a presumption that it is a fixture10. For example, in the case of Hamp v Bygrave11 it was held that patio lights that were attached to the wall of the house were fixtures. Moreover, if an object is not fixed, but merely rests on its own weight, there will be a presumption that it is a chattel12. If we apply this by analogy to the current scenario, the sign had hung from a post, which if resting on its own weight will lead to a presumption of it being a chattel. However, the presumption can be rebutted on the basis of the purpose of the annexation test. In the case of Elitestone Limited v Morris13 Lord Clyde asserted that this test involved a consideration of â€Å"the purpose which the object is serving and not the purpose of the person who put it there14†. As such, the test is objective and is concerned with the intention of the p erson who put the object on the land. It further requires the overriding purpose of the object being the enhancement and enjoyment of the land to make a permanent improvement to the land, in order for it to be a fixture15. If we apply this by analogy to the current scenario, we are not aware of the terms of the contract of sale between Barry, Rachel, Monica, Joey and Phoebe. If the contract expressly provided that the sign would remain as part of the land as a condition of sale, then removal by Barry will be in breach of contract. Alternatively, if the sign is part of the land, Barry did not have a right to remove it and Rachel, Monica, Phoebe and Joey would be able to request a return of the sign16. However, if the sign rests on its own weight, then the parties will have to rebut the presumption by demonstrating that the sign was intended to enhance the enjoyment of the land. If this can be established, the sign will form part of the land and the parties will be able to recover the sign from Barry. 2) Whether Alan is entitled to remain in Unit 2. The extent to which Alan’s rights are enforceable will depend on the nature of his rights and the enforceability of interests under the Land Registration Act 2002. If we firstly consider the factual scenario, Alan argues that he has been using Unit 2 since 2007 and pays a yearly â€Å"occupation fee†. This creates a degree of ambiguity as to whether his alleged right to use the property constitutes a licence or a lease. If the

How has globalization (or regionalisation) impacted public policy Essay

How has globalization (or regionalisation) impacted public policy formulation and implementation in Canada - Essay Example The positive side of globalisation is that it has provided opportunities for streamlining of public policies with the international standards. Technology has become an important tool for implementation of public policies as the government has an efficient platform to communicate and roll out their public policies. While Canada has come under spot for failing to face globalisatio head on, there is evidence that many changes have come up due to the new era. Therefore, it is clear that globalisation has had both negative and positive impacts in the development and implementation of public policies. One impact of globalisation is that it came about with social transformation within the country. The era of internationalisation saw many people move from one region to the other in search for a living or for economic reasons. The result was the formation of a diverse population that demanded new public policies to govern. The employment sector in Canada is one of the areas that experienced as people of different races, culture, religion and color filled the labor market raising a number of issues. The gender-wage gap in particular became a serious issue for Canada as result of globalisation. The gender wage gap in Canada has been a controversial issue since early 1980s when this difference was noted. Cornish and Faraday (2008) noted that women salary for equal position in Ontario is 29% below that of women indicating a wide salary gap across the gender boundaries. A close look at the wage gap trends indicates that there has only been slight improvement in the last 25 years despite the numerous efforts to close this gap. In 1987, before the emergence of wage gap activists, the wage gap was approximately 37% in Ontario. These trends indicate that the efforts to bring down the gap have been undermined and the gap remains wide. Cornish (2009) points out the wage gap has affected aboriginal women who have migrated to Ontario in search for a job. This trend in

Critical evaluation of Emerging NMS and Analysis Research Paper

Critical evaluation of Emerging NMS and Analysis - Research Paper Example Fault Management is the first element of FACPS. In order to manage faults, it is essential to detect it, log it and notify the concerned users. It is also necessary that the best possible ways are used to automatically fix the network faults in such a way that the network continues to run effectively. Network faults degrade network and cause downtime and therefore it is an important element that is implemented most widely in all networks (Network dictionary, n.d.) Configuration Management is the second element of FCAPS. It is the act of monitoring configuration information of the network and system. The aim of this is to track and manage effects of network operations on different hardware and software versions (Network dictionary n.d.) Accounting Management is the third element of FCAPS. It is the act of measuring the extent of network utilization by individuals and groups. All the activities of network users are measured on the basis of individuals and groups. The aim of this is to regulate the usage of network and bill the users according to their usage (Network dictionary n.d.) Performance Management is the fourth element of FCAPS. It is the act of measuring performance of network based on various aspects such as consistency, rates of faults and utilization. It also requires collection and analysis of network performance data such as throughput, latency, delay and jitter. The aim of this is to optimize the network performance; that is to keep the network effective and efficient (Network dictionary n.d.) Security Management is the fifth element of FCAPS. It is the act of controlling access and usage of network resources through the process of authentication, verification and assignments of rights based on privileges, positions and needs of the users. The aim is to prevent any sabotage or unauthorised access of private and sensitive information

ADVERTISING STRATEGY No great startegy is used in this add but in this add they have shown the power of happydent in light that how much teeth gets shine after eating a happy dent. and they gave the name to the add mukura le jagmaga le to attract those people who dont have so much clean and refresh teeth that they can laugh openly in front of any one.thats why they used the old time for this ad. According to Technopak advi-sors Ltd., the oral care market in India is estimated to be close to Rs 4,000 crores of which the largest contributor is the toothpaste seg- ment accounting for approximately 75 percent of the total market in India. The toothpaste market is es- timated at Rs 2,866 crores and is expected to reach Rs 3,226 crores by 2012. The toothpowder market, valued at Rs 497 crores, on the otherhand, is expected to drop to Rs 458 crores by 2012. The mouthwash market an infant product segment for now is valued at Rs 74 crores and is expected to reach Rs 89 crores by 2012.The toothbrush market is valued at 539 crores. The main strategy behind it is to capture the market of tooth paste also. BIG IDEA BEHIND THE COMMERCIAL Practically all of rural India pre- fers cleaning their teeth with tradi- tional products such as neem twigs, salt, ash, tobacco or other herbal in- gredients, contributing to a low per- capita consumption of branded oral care products. according to WHO, Indias overall awareness of oral hygiene is still very poor. The dentist- to-population ratio is 1:35,000 in comparison to 1:7,500 as recom- mended by the WhO. But with burgeoning middle class and multi- pronged advertising campaigns, there is now a latent demand for the formal oral care products and this is set to rise exponentially in the com- ing years. Growth is also likely to emanate from consumers ‘upgrad- ing to matured, value-added and innovative products in this category. Of late, growth of modern trade has also propelled brand sales, especially in the urban marktes. In India, toothpowder was pri- marily targeted at people who used traditional products like salt, neem twigs and other herbal products. Brands like Colgate, Dabur, Babool, Vicco are the prominent players in the toothpowder market in India. Over the past decade it has be- come evident that growth opportunities really lie in the rising demand for toothpaste as the toothpowder is beginning to show a phase of de- cline, as more and more consumers are switching from powders to pastes. according to amit Burman, vice chairman, Dabur India Ltd, the toothpowder market is growing slowly and has been largely stagnant, whereas the market for toothpastes has been witnessing strong double- digit growth, largely driven by a consumer shift in rural markets from toothpowders to toothpastes. Unlike in western countries, the market for new-age oral care products such as mouth freshening wash es, dental flosses and teeth whitening products are at a nascent stage in In- dia. The limited use of these products is also for now restricted to urban ar- eas only. â€Å"The market for specialised cleaning products and mouthwashes has remained a slow grower, with a bulk of the market still controlled by regular value-added toothpastes,† says Burman. One reason for the sluggish growth could be the fact that mouthwash in India is perceived more as a product for therapeutic rather than daily and cosmetic use. Listerine dominates the OTC mouthwash category, while Be-adine, Clohex and hexidine are the major brands among the medically prescribed products. CREATIVE EXECUTION In this add a chewing gum is shown as which can be used in place of a tooth paste in place of a mouth freshner. Because this add is based on the old time of Raja and Rani. when there was no lights and all. when Raja sits to eat meal person chewing happy dent white and his teeths start sparkling so much that is puts light on the table then in place of every equipement which produce light there was a human being and when the light was needed person starts chewing gum. TACTICS Happy Dent white company covered all the three products in one product, Tooth paste Mouth freshner Chewing Gum In the beginning the commercial to create the interest of the consumer they show a person who was running some where after seeing the persons on car instead of Head Lights, this was like something very attactive and catchy to the customers and the lyrics added flavour to the advertisement. APPEAL In this commercial all the segment of customers are attracted because they have shown three qualities in one chewing gum Perfetti Van Melle India (Happydent White). Happydent White is a coated functional gum available in Peppermint and Fruit flavours with special ayurvedic recipe. The brands positioning is that ‘chewing happydent White can give you a sparkling smile. happydent White offers two sugar free variants Protex happy- dent and happydent White Xylit. Storyboard: The film shows a shepherd searching for his lost flock of sheep. He comes across a lorry which has crashed and HappyDent Wave which comprised its cargo has been spilt all over. A herd of passing elephants tramples on the cargo, creating bursts of the toothwhitening liquid contained in the HappyDent Wave and this becomes a river, the elephants play in this river. It becomes night and the herd of elephants emerge, their tusks glowing bright thanks to the HappyDent they soaked them in. Villagers watching the forest light up in the distance say sadly that the village has yet to get electricity but Jungal mein mangal ho rahan hain. Behind the scenes: The film was inspired by folk lore of elephants playing in water according to Joshi. The film was shot in Kerala over a period of three days. Folk music was used as the background score, apt as the setting of the film is very rural. The films used a real location with a jungle and a lake and constructed the village. The shot of the elephants tusks gleaming like tubelights have been worked on in post production. The number of elephants were also multiplied to crePrasoon Joshi, executive chairman, McCann Worldgroup India, and regional creative director, McCann Asia, created the highly exaggerated Happydent campaign to re-create the brand promise of sparkling teeth, the category was looking for something just as outrageous to spur the confectionary purchase. Before the ad, consumers tended to confuse brand Happydent with rival Orbit. Effective advertising pushed Happydent to top of the mind recall in the category. Orbit was forced to change its communication from being a teeth whitening chewing gum to a gum with benefits like tooth decay prevention. Namita Gupta, product head, Perfetti India, says, Communication should be a mix of creative and effective advertising. Its pointless if our campaign is great, but we are not able to sell our products. The new variant of the Happydent campaign looses on the novelty factor. The new ad for HappyDent Wave pales in comparison, which features a herd of elephants that stomp through several cartons of the gel-filled variant only to end up with tusks that flicker like tube lights.ate the feel of a large herd. Gyaan: This is the latest commercial from Happydent after the two earlier films which set the benchmark for films that went again the grain for the product category. The first film was the photostudio film which had the assistant pop in a Happy Dent chewing gum before every shot for a flash, the second had a palace and a city, illuminated by folks grinning from ear to ear. The premise for the previous films was Muskurale Jagmagale, while the new improved premise is Daaton tale, diya jale. The product is a brand variant and not the Mother Brand which necessitated a new TVC. I would buy a Happydent todaythe recall is so much Happydent: An Elephantine effort for sparkling teeth Happydent is at it again . After the ‘photo studio film, and the globally acclaimed ‘Palace commercial, the brand has just unveiled a commercial for one of its new variants Happydent Wave. In the wake of the brand promise of Muskurale, jagmagale for Happydent White in 2007, Happydent Wave comes with the somewhat poetic promise of Daaton tale, diya jale. The film, conceived by McCann Erickson, opens on a shepherd looking for his lost sheep. He comes across a herd of elephants that has found a toppled lorry full of Happydent Wave. As the elephants step on the gum, there are splashes of water, which gradually turn into a river in which the elephants swim and play. At nightfall, the elephants tusks suddenly start shining bright, lighting up the jungle. The film ends with a few old men sitting in the darkness and quipping sarcastically, â€Å"Jangal mein mangal ho raha hai, par gaon mein toh bijli aayi hi nahin bhaiya!† (There is no light in the village, while the jungle is shining bright.)
